My Next Commissioned Piece…

I’ve been asked to make this mosaic for one of my oldest and closest friends, Pete, jokingly nicknamed Jesus. I gave him this nickname sometime in the past 12 or so months, after I missed a call of his. All he said in the voice message was “Jesus” in feigned exasperation, and so he remains when we need a laugh.

Pete’s family consists of 8 wonderful humans and a menagerie of animals including a favoured bull terrier named Georgie, who this mosaic will lovingly represent. The brief is quite simple and I’m looking forward to having a go at it.

Pete has sent me a photo of the lead light piece (above) that inspired his idea, and I’ll use that as a template. Georgie also sat angelically for a photo shoot, so I could replicate her colouring and markings, as well as her trademark droopy ear. I’m sure she loved the piece of meat she sat so well for. It wasn’t an easy task for her so her reward was well deserved. I absolutely love her tongue in the last photo, so have to add that in the mosaic!

She has a heart of gold and loves nothing more than to sit on your lap for cuddles. She doesn’t see herself as being the size and weight she is, which is one of the things I love about her. She’s so affectionate and such a character!

I’m yet to physically start this piece, but I’m already thinking about stained glass and tiles for it. I got the measurements last night though, 40cm x 60cm (roughly 16” x 24”), so I can get a piece of marine ply cut to size. I have a mosaic that I need to finish off and one that’s already sold that I need to grout and hang, so have plenty to keep me busy!

  1. Aww! Georgie is so cute! I’m sure your mosaic will turn out awesome! I love bull terriers, not that I’ve been around any, but as kids we saw “The Incredible Journey” plus we had the record with the book that went with it, and one of the animals was a bull terrier if I’m not mistaken. And I always liked him best😀

    1. I hope I do her justice! Georgie is the first bull terrier I’ve known and she’s just so happy and loving. I haven’t heard of “The Incredible Journey”, but it brought back childhood memories – we had records with the storybooks too that we loved. “Winnie the Pooh” was my favourite, and my brother’s was “Sesame Street”. I’ll have to look up “The Incredible Journey” 😄

      1. It’s a heartwarming story (Disney, I think) about two dogs and a cat that travel hundreds of miles to their home, I forget if the people moved or what made them have to travel. I always remember the scene where they come running over the hill towards their house at the end and the kid is running to meet them. Of course that’s a memory from 50 years ago so may not be accurate 😋
